PTNA calls for interns for the following three programs; A) administration and publicity assistants of the PTNA Piano Competition, B) 1 day internship program, C) hands-on learning program as a dual-career staff.
The program A will provide opportunities to work as administration and publicity assistants of the grade superior of the PTNA Piano Competition this summer. The final concerto round has been full every year, and PTNA hopes that interns will help promote the semi-final round, which is also important to evaluate performances in a recital form. It is expected that they will understand how music education industry and institutions / companies work, and how they are incorporated in a society. One of the past participants testifies that she was impressed to know how various people supported the competition behind the scenes. She tried to understand each viewpoint, such as participants, jury members, audiences, etc, which made her grow herself as one of the members in a society.
The program B is a one-day-intensive program for those who are interested in music education and its role in a society. There will be a discussion session with practical case studies that PTNA actually had in the past, and interns will be encouraged to exchange ideas and give presentations at the end. They will get feedback from PTNA headquarter staffs. According to one of the past participants, she realized how important to invest to what is yet invisible but necessary in a long run, and then considered what PTNA would do in the future as a part of the society.
The program C is a 3-day-program for those who are interested in working in a company before becoming independent piano teachers. PTNA has employed several "dual career" staffs, and interns will experience several pieces of work from them. For instance, they will assist STEP administration. They will also experience some teaching jobs, by joining a weekly presentation session in which dual career staffs review their piano lessons and receive feedbacks from their colleagues.
Here are the testimonies from current dual career staffs.
Moe Toyota (the 2nd year) has been working for a year at To-on Kikaku. She is getting efficient day by day at work, and at the same time, she teachers more than 20 students at her piano studio. She believes that working as a dual career staff could uplift herself in various ways as one of the member of society.

Mayu Ishido (the 1st year) started teaching from last April, and feels difficulty in teaching techniques and knowledge of piano as well as sharing pleasure of playing music at the same time. Thanks to weekly lesson review sessions, she is able to have opportunities not only to review the way she teaches, but also to consider how to manage and promote her studio, and further, to know the inside of music education industry.
Yuriko Matsumoto (the 1st year) serves as an operator of STEP advisors' logistic, which help her learn the basics and ethic of working in a company. As she always communicates with senior piano teachers, she is greatly impressed with their passions and professional mindset, which accelerates her sense of independence and responsibility.
