PTNA_20161021top2.jpgPTNA has engaged in diffusion of Japanese works from 50 years ago. In fact, it was one of its primal objectives of early years, and it still is.

PTNA will hold a special event (lecture & masterclass) in corporation with the Japan Federation of Composers Inc. (JFC) on April 4th 2017. 10 composers will give lectures and 10-minuite-lessons to young students under 15 who choose to play their pieces. Here is the list of composers; Chizuko Momoi, Kenji Watanabe, Kunihiro Kiku, Shigeo Suzuki, Kayoko Maeda, Takemi Mochizuki (solo pieces), Etsuo Kawasaki, Naoto Omasa, Ayako Nakamura, Yoshimi Mori (duo pieces). This event corresponds to the annual concert of JFC, in which a total of 27 composers will perform their own pieces written on a theme of "Dances in the World". It will be held in the end of March, a week prior to the collaborative event with PTNA.

Here is a message from Naoto Omasa, composer, Executive Director of JFC and the chairperson of JFC annual concert.
"I had several opportunities to listen to Japanese works performed by children in the PTNA Piano Competition. They played quite well. But at the same time, I thought if they had given advices from composers directly, their performances would have been different. My belief became stronger especially after listening to several composers' own performances this year. I understand that every composer has different opinion. However, if one would know true messages from composers themselves, it could enrich your music-making in a way that one would never experience when studying Classic or Romantic pieces. This example might be too beautiful, I would say, but a French pianist Vlado Perlemuter learned directly from Maurice Ravel and that made his performance further extraordinary.  Then, why don't you become a specialist of contemporary pieces by receiving advices from those who composed them? "
