The grade superior boasts the highest standard in the PTNA Piano Competition. Nearly 150 young pianists will participate this year among about 40,000 participants in all the grades and divisions. The grand prize winner will be awarded 1 million yen as well as many opportunities of domestic and internatinal stages.
At the final round on August 21st, 4 pianists will play with the Tokyo Symphony Orchestra under the baton of Maestro Chikara Iwamura. And there will be an opportunity for audience to vote for their most favorite performance!
The semi final round will be taken place on August 18th, 3 days prior to the final, in which 7 pianists will perform 45-55 min programs including one classical sonata (select from Haydn, Mozart, Beethoven) and one Japanese work.
Sayako Shinonaga, the grand prize winner in 2015, told that she spent the most enthusiastic, motivated, and concentrated 3 days after the semi final round. She tried to believe in herself and her music making, and relieved that her teacher, family, friends were all supportive. She played Rachmaninov's piano concerto No.1 at the final round, which made her reach the grand prize.
You may see that young pianists will develop even during the competition, as they proceed the stages. Please come and see their performances in the Daiichi-Semei hall, or via Internet.
