PTNA Piano Seminars are available to all the piano teachers across Japan. They work as places for studying piano methods and teaching skills, getting fresh ideas and inspirations about performances and interpretations, as well as meeting colleagues in your neighborhood.
9,245 piano teachers attended seminars last year, 2/3 of whom are in their 40s and 50s. The recent statistics shows that 1/3 of PTNA members (5,443) have attended seminars at least once, and 1/5 of new members have participated in their first year. It also reveals that experienced teachers also keep learning; 1/3.7 of senior teachers (who gave lectures in PTNA seminars more than 10 times) and 1/1.6 of PTNA Teachers' Award recipients have attended seminars.
Attendees are advised to write reports right after each lecture so as to review what they have learned. Then they receive one "teaching point" that verify their learning. When they obtain certain amount of points, they will receive the PTNA Teachers' Award.
There are several other ways to make full use of the seminar attendance. In some seminars, attendees are able to have lunch together with lecturers and other colleagues after 2 hour lecture. This optional event enhances exchanges, dialogues, and reviewing the lecture from various points of view. And some attendees write brief reviews and articles on their blogs, facebook, twitter, etc., so as to share their knowledge with others.
Mitsuyo Esaki, one of the Board of Trustees, recommends to attend seminars to "step forward". In order to study efficiently, she thinks it better to know yourself first by analyzing "what you have to learn now" and "what you would like to learn for your future", and find seminars which you are inspired.
