Grand Prize Announced! 2013 PTNA Piano Competition

It was announced that Ms.Rui URAYAMA won the Grand Prize of the 2013 PTNA Piano Competition.
At the semi-final round on August 18th, she played Beethoven's piano sonata No.13 Op.27-1, Naoya Akaishi's "Torso I Bianco" (compulsory Japanese work), and D.Scarlatti's two sonatas (K.427/L.286, K.455/L.209) and concluded her program with 5 pieces from Albeniz's "Iberia" vol.1 & 3. Her bright tone and passionate expressions especially suited to the last 5 Spanish pieces. In contrast, she chose Chopin's piano concerto No.1 at the final round on 21st, in which she played every passage with glamour and sensitivity, and showed harmonious performance with Tokyo City Philharmonic Orchestra conducted by Maestro Kazumasa Watanabe (see VTR). She reached the final round in 2006 and tried the same grade again after 7 years.
Ms. Urayama was born in 1988 in Hokkaido. After graduated from Kyoto City University of Arts, she continued her study in Master of Music at Boston Conservatory with full scholarship. She won the 2nd prize at the Chopin Piano Competition in Hartford (U.S.) in 2012. She played in solo and chamber recitals (JEMUR Piano Trio) in many cities including Japan, U.S., Italy, Lithuania, etc.
Ms.Shiori Kuwahara, born in 1995, won the silver prize. She played Tchaikovsky's piano concerto No.1 with full force and grace, and also showed her high potential ability in solo recital round. Other winners and finalist are Mr.Takuya Tainaka (bronze) and Ms.Mayaka Nakagawa (finalist).
