2011tettei_liszt.jpgPTNA will hold a special lecture on a theme of Franz Liszt on September 24th. Prof.Yukio Nomoto will give 6 hours intensive lecture. The lecture will be divided into three sections; Liszt's technical explorations, personal life, and his transcriptions.

In the first part, Prof.Nomoto focuses on the Liszt's technical development by comparing several etudes ; Etude en 48 exercices dans tous les tons majeurs et mineures S.136 no.10, Vingt-quatre grandes études S.137 no.10, Etudes d'exécution transcendante S.139 no.10, and Chopin's etudes op.10-9. He also traces the resource of Liszt's technical inspirations to Paganini's Caprice no.24, and compares it with Liszt's Grandes études de Paganini S.141 no.6, etc.

In the second part, Prof.Nomoto illustrates the dynamic transition of Liszt's life style as pianist, composer, and clergyman. Nomoto also highlights the characteristics of Liszt's composition style, that is, enhancement of program music (Sonata, "Apres une lecture du Dante-Fantasia quasi sonata" etc) and anticipation of the atonal music ("Les jeux d'eaux a la Villa d'Este", La lugubre gondola S.200/2, Nuages Gris, etc).

2011tettei-110708topic2.jpgIn the last part, Nomoto elucidates the uniqueness of Liszt's notation by focusing on transcriptions and paraphrases (Rigoletto paraphrase de concert), as well as his 'bilingual' talent to use piano as an orchestra (Mephisto Walzer S.514, Légendes S.175).

Two pianists, Mamiko Tomari and Eri Yamabe will give demonstration performances.
