Aiko Okamoto studied at Conservatoire national supérieur de musique et de danse de Paris with bourses du gouvernement français, while she was studying at Tokyo University of fine arts and music. She won a prize in Long=Thibaud International Competition, and began her concert activities in Paris and other cities. After graduation from conservatoire with premier prix, she continued her postgraduate study in Munchen National University in 1980 and in the following year, she served as a lecturer at Kassel National University.
After coming back to Japan in 1985, she actively played in solo recitals, concerti, and chamber music. In 1986 she became a lecturer at piano faculty in Tokyo University of fine arts and music.
She has played complete series of Debussy preludes, Ravel and Poulenc. She released a CD of complete pieces of Poulenc, which became a special selection on the magazine "Record Geijutsu(art)".
